Company Photographer Tristan Crane Showcases Beautifully Transgressive Images from HeavenlySpire.com

San Francisco, CA — (November 29th, 2011): Pink & White Productions, the San Francisco-based queer porn company directed by award-winning filmmaker Shine Louise Houston, is a porn house with an art bent. company’s work is featured in the art show “Man as Object: Reversing the Male Gaze”.

The show’s theme focuses on women artists looking at men and masculinity, and exhibits art which re-envisions gender, society, and the politics of exposure — a good fit for Pink & White Productions and company photographer, Tristan Crane.

Crane’s photographs from the Pink & White Productions’ newest website HeavenlySpire.com features models Quinn Valentine and James Darling, and are exhibited in the main gallery and printed catalog along side the work of other artists such as The Guerrilla Girls and Annie Sprinkle. The exhibition runs from November 4th through 30th, ending in a closing reception and artists’ panel at SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco.

About Man as Object
Man as Object: Reversing the Gaze is an exhibition that re-envisions gender, society and the politics of exposure. With a gallery filled with men stripped naked, this body of work exposes women’s cheeky, provocative and sometimes shocking commentaries on the opposite sex. The exhibition’s contemporary scope encompasses all the ways that women view Man-as-Object, reversing the traditional view of male artists objectifying women. Its diverse perspectives on masculinity come from straight, transsexual, transgender, lesbian and multi-cultural artists through a spectrum of media, from paintings to sculpture, installations to performance, video to social media. The show’s extensive collection of male adoration, male impersonation and male appendages may make the viewer squirm a little. But that is precisely the point. The more than 100 women artists in the exhibition unapologetically reveal how they really see men. Through this public display at SOMArts Cultural Center, the show’s organizers aim to equalize the gaze between the sexes.

LA2 (Angel Ortiz)

Yes I am sure you know who Keith “fucking” Haring was and are pretty familiar with ACT UP. If you don’t then you need to get off the interwebs and get some schooling in you son or at least Google this for christsakes! But you probably don’t know LA2 aka Angel Ortiz. Angel started collaborating with Haring when he was a mere 14 years old working with him from 1980-1986. They created hundreds of pieces together and had shows all over the world.

After Haring’s death, the Haring Foundation pretty much shafted Oritz, in the bad way not good way.

Beginning in the late 1990s the Pop Shop, on Lafayette Street, sold T-shirts and umbrellas bearing designs by Ortiz, which were identified and marketed as created by Haring. Ortiz discovered this by accident after wandering into the store. After Ortiz complained, the foundation paid Ortiz a dollar for each of 1800 T-shirts sold for between $15 and $25. The shop also paid him $182 for umbrella sales totaling $1824.

Ly is a Japan-based artists who defines herself as a “monochrome artists”. She is involved with the FancyHIM Tokyo party scene where all the artfag fashionistas converge in Shinjuku Nichome for a night of wearable art and insane beats by pretty well-known international DJs. I actually own a wonderful tote designed by Ly featuring her “I Hate Dik” work. You know it’s great to walk into your organic grocery with a bag with cocks and upside-down crucifixes on it, real conversation starter and it’s cute. Although I don’t know Ly’s self-proclaimed sexual identity, her work is quiet prolific in the queer cultural scene in Tokyo and features a lot of cock. Her artist’s statement is below and speaks for itself.

‘I HATE DIK’ There are many DIK in Ly’s paintings. DIK symbolizes ‘taboo’, ‘discomfort’,'discrimination’, ‘hate’, and ‘things you cannot see nor say’. Ly HATES these negative elements, so that she throws them in her canvas. But at the same time, she paints them with a little bit of hope and mercy, and you see her sexuality, life-or-death issue in the black and white world. For Ly, there is no border between the two colors, across gender, beyond limits. Ly’s world shapes of a cute and dangerous monster.
